3 Questions to Aaron Rietveld | FMS Rotterdam

1. What is your job at FMS Rotterdam?

I'm working on the Sales department for FMS Rotterdam. Our job is to listen to our clients, be aware of the different kind of developments and translate this into logistic solutions. It's very important to stay in contact with the market to be able to quickly adapt to our customer's needs. My friends think I have a boring office job in an industrial harbour environment, but what

I'm actually doing is:

  • Seeking for new clients and business opportunities
  • Connecting their inland transports with the deep-sea vessels
  • Supporting other FMS branches and agents with our local knowledge
  • Helping our clients move their LCL, FCL, Airfreight and special cargoes
  • Enjoying the appreciation from our customers when we help them serve their clients better
  • Trying to learn a little bit more each day
2. How was your professional development at FMS?

When I started at FMS I was a blank page and had no experience at working for a forwarder with a big international network. I started in December 2010 and just wanted to become a forwarder, so I started learning the basics as sorting out documents and organizing inland transports.

Due to trainings, courses and the great support and experience from my colleagues, I learned a lot and my responsibilities grew quickly. In a short period of time I learned to handle every part from A to Z and after 4 years I got the opportunity to work for our sales team. But for my professional development it was very important to find out that if you're willing to work hard and be responsible for your own performance, you can achieve more than I imagined when I started at FMS.

3. What makes FMS a great employer for you?

FMS gives their employees big responsibility's and encourages personal development. The management is always open for new and individual ideas. We can enjoy working in a casual environment, learn a lot and achieve results together.
