How many employees work at the branch?

At our North American Headquarters in Reading, Pennsylvania, we have around 55 great colleagues. The average age is about 34, so we are a young team, and for many, FMS is their first employer right after college. Most of our colleagues stay with FMS for several years, which reflects our strong and supportive work environment. Our office is home to team members from seven different nationalities, including five German colleagues and two German interns, making it a diverse and vibrant place to work.

Are there any staff events at the branch?

In summer, we host an annual BBQ party in our parking lot. Every employee brings their own food and drinks to share with the team. For Christmas, we have our “ugly sweater” contest, and for Halloween we dress up in costumes and colleagues bring their kids to the office for trick-or-treating, which highlights our family-friendly work environment.

What kind of jobs are there at the branch and what are typical tasks?

We have export and import coordinators, accounting coordinators, supervisors, and managers for the respective departments. In addition, our IT staff and board members are also based in Reading.

Why is the FMS Reading office a great place to work?

Our one-team attitude and good-natured spirit create a positive and productive work environment, enabling employees to maintain a healthy work–life balance.

3 questions to Kaitlyn Moyer | Fr. Meyer's Sohn Reading

1.What is your job at FMS Reading?

My Job is an Export Supervisor in the Export department, specifically under managed business. I am also a multiplier which allows me to help train and act as a first line of support for SeaStep, as well as implement new features and processes when there are new releases for the system. I also help monitor the data quality in the system for clean calculations and reporting.

2. How was your professional development at FMS?

My professional development at FMS has been great. Over the past 10 years, I have been able to expand my knowledge in freight forwarding as well as support and mentor my team in providing excellent customer service. I have been able to use my problem‑solving skills to adapt and thrive in a fast‑paced environment and to exceed customer expectations. I would like to continue my development and use my leadership skills to effectively manage my team and drive overall success at FMS.

3. Why do you like working at FMS?

I like working at FMS because I have a strong sense of camaraderie within my team and great support from my manager. My job has allowed me to travel, most frequently to our FMS office in Mexico, as well as to visit my customer at their headquarters in Atlanta and their sales office in Switzerland. While working at FMS, I have enjoyed learning more about the business of freight forwarding and connecting with colleagues and customers. It is rewarding to help customers feel supported and confident in the often stressful atmosphere of global logistics.
