Christmas Donations 2019

Every year our employees can suggest nonprofit organizations FMS should donate to for Christmas. 2019 FMS selected 7 organizations:

One year ago, we had a bone marrow donor drive at the FMS headquarters in Hamburg. Our colleague Oliver took part and joined the register. He says: "Joining the register is simple: Fill out a form and swab your mouth with a cotton swab. You don't need to do anything else, apart from waiting for the call."
One year later, he received that call from the DKMS (https://www.dkms.de/en) and was informed that he is a match. The next steps were doing some more blood tests and making sure that he was healthy and a viable candidate for donation. Every step was organized very well by the DKMS and all information needed was provided.

Punt de Referencia | Spain

This organization supports the emancipation of young foster care leavers. Our colleague Martina Merlin from FMS Barcelona completed a course to be a volunteer/referent for a young person. By becoming a trusting figure, she provides emotional, leisure and linguistic support, accompaniment in the occupational insertion, the studies and the search for housing, the improvement of skills and abilities and expansion of social network.

Hands of Mercy | Netherlands

This organization support adults and children in difficult circumstances by supplying them with goods they are short of. Our colleague Rinus Mulder from FMS Zwijndrecht has been running this organization with his wife and about 16 volunteers for 6 years now.

Fundación de la Santa Cruz | Colombia

This organization favors the integral formation of girls, boys, adolescents and adults, so that they build conditions of dignified, conscious, coherent and quality life. Our colleague Göran Klessig from FMS Hamburg is supporting this organization with personal commitment from the other side of the globe.

Plant for the Planet

This organization is a children's' initiative for planting trees around the globe. We are the no. 1 forwarder for forestry products. Therefore, especially for us, it is important to support a sustainable forest and environmental management.

The association was founded in order to improve medical care on the road. More than 700 doctors, clinics and hospitals across Germany are available to bus and truck drivers for fast outpatient assistance. We as FMS wanted to support this organization, because as a forwarder this is an important topic for us. Especially with over 50 own FMS truck drivers on the road.

Winternotprogramm (winter emergency for homeless people)

The winters in Hamburg are cold and this organization provides 400 sleeping places for homeless people. The building is right next to our headquarters and provides sanitary facilities and washing machines for homeless people as well. Our colleague Christian Bieberstein suggested this organization, which he supports himself as a volunteer each year.

Hörer helfen Kindern

This organization is a German fundraiser for children in need, organized by the Hamburg radio station. Our colleague Anna Kramp suggested this organization, which helps children in need in Hamburg and its surroundings. We visited the radio station to get to know more about the projects and talked with other donators.

Personal Report | Bone Marrow Transplation

Approximately 70% of all patients in need of bone marrow transplants find a matching donor outside of their family. We at FMS are very proud, that one of our colleagues is one of those donors. He shares his story to let others know what the process is like and how easy it is to become a donor.
