The Port of Durban is the largest and busiest container port in sub-Saharan Africa. Fr. Meyer’s Sohn Durban is strategically positioned 15 kms away from the Port of Durban to support specialised shipping and logistics solutions across selected commodity sectors. Leveraging strong partnerships with carriers, terminal operators, and local service providers, our Durban team delivers integrated, end-to-end solutions encompassing ocean freight, port operations, warehousing, documentation, and distribution. Well-established road links to Gauteng and the wider Southern African region further enhance our ability to manage complex supply chains and support regional and international trade.

1. What is your job at FMS Durban ?

I work in the Operations Department as an Ocean Import Client Service Controller, coordinating customs clearance for FCL, LCL, and Break Bulk shipments. My role includes managing the forwarding process, preparing shipping documents, invoicing shipments timeously, and keeping customers informed throughout the shipment lifecycle to ensure transparency and strong client relationships.

2. What has your professional development at FMS been?

I joined FMS in 2005 in the Transport Department and later transitioned into Operations in 2013. Over the years, I have gained extensive experience across transport, warehousing, and customs clearing, supported by several Customs Clearing courses. This learning journey has been challenging, rewarding, and central to my professional growth.

1. What is your job at FMS Durban ?

I am the National Manager of the Agriculture (Agri) Division. At FMS South Africa, collaboration is at the core of our work — we focus on understanding our customers’ goals, challenges, and ambitions to continuously adapt our services and support their growth. Our Agri Division is powered by a team of specialists who understand the complexities of the agricultural supply chain. From farm to export, we ensure every stage is managed with precision, reliability, and care. With offices in Johannesburg, Durban, Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), and Cape Town, we offer nationwide coverage. Our PPECB‑ and FBO‑registered warehouses provide a significant advantage in the perishable export market, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and high‑quality product handling. We are proud to be market leaders in tree nut exports — handling 30% of South Africa’s in‑shell macadamia exports and over 61% of in‑shell pecan exports. This reflects our operational strength and the long‑standing trust of our partners.

2. What has your professional development at FMS been?

I have 34 years of shipping experience, with the past 20 years focused on the agricultural sector. I joined the company 11 years ago to grow its presence in agricultural logistics, and today we are recognised as a leading freight forwarder in the agriculture industry. Throughout my career, I have taken pride in sharing my knowledge to develop strong, capable people and support the ongoing success of our organisation.

1. What is your job at FMS Durban ?

I joined FMS 14 years ago as a receptionist. Over time, I have grown into the role of Branch Secretary and have also taken on responsibilities as a procurement buyer. This progression has allowed me to develop a broad understanding of the business and contribute across multiple functions.

2. How have you personally developed at FMS?

During my time at FMS, I have significantly strengthened my communication skills. I am able to multitask effectively while maintaining accuracy and strong attention to detail.
