Case Study | Cruise Control | Forestry

Efficient control and communication processes with everyone involved - including buyers

Initial situation

With an annual paper production of 3.3 million tons, our customer is one of the largest European producers of recycling paper and corrugated board. In the course of its cooperation with FMS, the company expressed the need for improvement in its operational processes. The focus was on two main needs: better control overviews and leaner communication. As the company had repeatedly recorded high claims for damages in the past, a possibility for effective claim management was particularly sought.

Document Management
Solution

Based on these requirements, an individualized Cruise Control setup was configured:

  • Tracking & Tracing: Customized dashboards provide transparency; individual monitoring rules allow the company to proactively manage deviations. Alert Mails provide early information on the achievement of milestones or deviations in the transport process.
  • Buyer scenario: A role-based access concept allows customers of our customer a pre-filtered dashboard view defined previously. In this way, buyers can view and monitor shipments that are relevant to them. This reduces the communication efforts of the company with its customers.
  • The Document Management bundles all shipment related documents centrally in one place. This allows easily coordinating and exchanging of, e.g. Bill of Ladings, packing lists or commercial invoices with customers and agents. At the same time, the communication effort and error proneness are reduced significantly.

Control Tower
  • Media upload for quality control: The ability to provide photos and video clips on Cruise Control allows our customer to monitor container-loading processes at the warehouse transparently.
  • Since the introduction of an online reporting tool based on real-time data, the Control Tower in Cruise Control, our customer has access to detailed reports in order to measure strategic objectives and performance-related KPIs.
Result

With the implementation of a customized Cruise Control setup, the customer was able to streamline the operational processes and communication efforts. Through this cooperation project, FMS has also been able to position itself successfully as a strategic and long-term partner for Saica. The reason: With the provision of such a tailored IT solution, which provides more than a tracking & tracing system, FMS offers an added value that is significantly above the regular scope of a logistics service provider.
With the implementation of a customer-specific Cruise Control setup, it has been possible to significantly streamline processes and communication efforts for the customer and to make deviations visible at an early stage in order to avoid damage. With the provision of this needs-based IT solution, which goes far beyond a tracking & tracing system, FMS offers added value that is well above the regular scope of a logistics service provider.
