When Thai people meet, they welcome each other with a so called "WAI". The wai consists of a slight bow with the palms pressed together, either in front of the chest or the face. Another way to greet someone is the word "Sawaddee", which can be follwed by a "Kha" (for women) or a "Krab" (for men). It is also possible to combine both greetings.
Thai's prefer to build personal relationships before discussing business. Very often, issues will need to be repeatedly discussed and at many different levels before any decisions are made. For example, meetings will always take place over lunch or drinks and entertainment is part of developing business relationships.
Thailand is a country influenced by Budism, in which foreigners/tourists are warmly welcomed. It is one of the least expensive places to fly to in Asia and the well developed public transportation system makes it possible to travel through the entire country on a low budget. Due to the hot and mostly sunny weather it is possible to enjoy the beaches in Thailand all year round.
When Thai people have time for small talk, we always discuss daily life, social activities and some nice restaurant to eat and funny places to visit.
