Case study on problems encountered in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic

Initial Situation

In the end of February 2020 Fr. Meyer’s Sohn was commissioned by a loyal customer to transport 6384 pistons from China to Germany. The customer was dependent on on-time delivery, as a delayed delivery would have caused an interruption of the supply chain.
Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, the closures of the Chinese companies already existence due to the Chinese New Year were extended. This lead to an interruption in transport chain and a punctual delivery by sea freight was no longer possible.

Solution

At the time, the COVID-19 pandemic severely limited transport possibilities, as almost all passenger aircrafts were out of service. It was a big challenge to get free capacities in the area of airfreight to transport the goods to Germany. However, the FMS team was able to make a short term delivery, which included the transport from Beijing via Hong Kong to Frankfurt by air freight and within Beijing and Frankfurt by truck.

Result

The long-standing, loyal customer has been offered reasonable prices for the global economic situation. The customer’s supply chain was not interrupted by the quick action of the FMS team, the goods arrived at the factory on time and could be processed further.

This shows that Fr. Meyer’s Sohn employees are always there for the client, especially during difficult times.
The commitment of each employee remains and we take responsibility for ourselves and our tasks!
